Community Partnerships

Little Blue Dinosaur

Since 2018 Northpoint Shopping Centre has built a partnership with The Little Blue Dinosaur Campaign to spread the message on the importance of holding children’s hands around roads.

The Little Blue Dinosaur was created in the memory of Tom who was a vibrant and loving young boy with a zest for life and an unforgettable smile, and he continues to be a powerful motivator of the foundation every day, with the drawing of blue dinosaurs that he loved to do so much becoming the logo for his foundation. The tragic loss of Tom in a pedestrian road accident on the Central Coast in 2014 motivated us to establish the Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation (LBD), ensuring the promising legacy we saw in Tom’s young life is realised through child road safety initiatives and education.

The Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation is a voice for children. It is Tom’s voice. A clear, determined and passionate voice that speaks to children, for children and their safety. Tom’s message “Slow down; kids around” is an essential one that must be heard in every street, city and town. The work of the Foundation is Tom's legacy and a single life saved through education and awareness raised in his name is an objective we are all very proud to strive for.

Sustainability

Here are some of the examples of how our store owners are committed to the practice of sustainability.

Eco Bag Competition

Every year Northpoint Shopping Centre runs the Eco bag competition, whereby local children are asked to submit a design which may be chosen to be printed on reusable canvas bags.

The initiative is very popular and has trifold benefit in that it engages our local community, especially the younger members, leads to an environmentally beneficial outcome and creates engagement between the Centre and community.

The bags are always warmly received across the community and can be seen in use within the Centre.

Pure Hair

Pure Hair joined the Centre in 2021  and became Queensland’s first accredited regional sustainable salon. Impressively, the salon recycles up to 95% of the waste produced in the salon as well as accepting returned empty salon product packages, the recycled waste will contribute to initiatives such as buying meals for OzHarvest, creation of outdoor furniture from recycled shampoo and conditioner bottles and creating hair booms to mop up oil spills in the ocean.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Fast Charging Stations are available at Northpoint Shopping Centre.

In the shopping centre’s ALDI car park there are two allocated car parks with the electric vehicle charge stations.

The Evie fast charge station:

  • Charges 350kW
  • Offers 24/7 access
  • Online payment

The expected charge time is approximately 10 - 40min, allowing a perfect amount of time to enjoy a coffee and a shop.

Solar Panels

Northpoint Shopping Centre and owners Fort Street Real Estate are at the forefront of environmentally friendly retail solutions. In fact, they have just expanded their rooftop solar power system capacity by 200%, from 100kW to 300kW 250kW. The solar expansion means our Centre’s daytime energy use will be almost fully powered by solar and centre retailers will have the opportunity to boost their green credentials through the centre’s solar capacity.

The 300kW solar system produces 427,000kWh of renewable energy each year which equates to savings of approximately 342 Tonnes of carbon dioxide, or the equivalent of removing 180 cars off the road each year.
